The four inch Spear Point blade is made of 154CM steel with a HRC of 61. We coated the blade with tumbled gray DLC and paired this with Coyote Tan scales, one of Off-Grid's favorite color combos. The handle is 5.25" with G10 scales, gorilla hands will comfortably fit this grip with ease. Like all Off-Grid knife designs, the Stinger XL is overbuilt and made for everyday hard-use. Influenced by the FIM-92 Stinger Surface to Air Missile, a heavy duty and portable tactical defense weapon, this describes our Stinger XL knife perfectly. One flip of this blade and the bad guys will duck for cover. The Stinger XL rides super deep in your pocket with the option of left hand carry, it's big but lays low. If you're looking for a big XL flipper with attitude, you found it in the Stinger XL.
The Stinger XL blade design and build pays homage to the trusty FIM-92 Stinger Missile which has served our USM well over many years. The 4 inch blade has a tumbled DLC graywash look with 4mm thick 154CM blade stock, a true XL heavy duty blade. The grind is a bayonet double ground spear point (the top of the blade spine is not sharpened). There's jimping on the flipper tab and a thick landing spot for your thumb after you deploy, this design will lock into your hand with comfort and stability. 154CM is a steel developed and made by Crucible Industries, this steel has incredible edge retention, corrosion resistance and toughness but also easy to sharpen, making it an excellent choice for a tactical knife. We stamped "Crucible 154CM" as a shout-out to the maker of this incredible knife steel that has stood the test of time.
The Stinger XL handle will fit XXL gloved hands easily and comfortably. We secured the Coyote G10 scales with non-strip T8 screws with striped accents which is another design shout-out to the USM.
One flip of this beast and any would-be threat will run home to mommy, the Stinger XL is a lean-mean-fighting-machine. The deployment is smooth and satisfying with drop-shut action as the blade rides on ceramic bearings. We added jimping on the flipper tab which guarantees surefire action and lock-up every time.
Have we mentioned the Stinger XL is a big knife? The good news is the pocket clip is deep, this knife will ride low in your pocket but always ready for quick deployment. We made the screws on the clip flush with the handle, easy in and out of the pocket, no snags. Also, after many requests, we added a G10 filler piece on the left carry side to keep the scales flush and smooth.
