When you start to talk about razor blades, most folks think you’re discussing utility knives or box cutters. We’re talking about a razor sharp edge for your blade, one that keeps going. You can easily find a razor blade pocket knife for sale online, but not all knives are created equal.
What to Look for in a Knife
The knife should be made from high-quality stainless steel. Higher quality steels hold their edge better, take longer for the edge to wear out, and are more resistant to corrosion and rust. AUS-8 is an excellent choice, being more cost effective and very durable, particularly if they’ve been coated. M390 and Elmax are more expensive options but are considered a premium quality steel, and well worth the price.
The handle should be comfortable to hold, which usually means less finger ridge contouring, as that can interfere with your own hands. It helps if the handle is textured, to provide additional grip, and prevent slipping in wet conditions.
Some things to consider are whether or not you want a spring assisted open, and whether you prefer to use the knife with your left or right hand. Not every knife is equipped for a left-hand open, so be sure to check.
Examples of Razor Edged Knives
A razor edge depends largely on how well it’s sharpened, so technically every knife can be a razor knife, this isn’t always the case. While you can get yours sharpened, the quality of the steel will determine how long it will last.
Off-Grid offers all knives with a razor sharp edge, and one of our sharpest is the OG-170 Fat Boy. This knife is built like a tank, made from AUS-8 steel, manually opened, and is compact. Perfect EDC for those who want a smaller knife that works like a big one.
